Fifty Reasons to Vote Against Barack Obama: 50-26

There are hundreds of simple, straightforward reasons for Americans to vote against Barack Obama on November 4. Editorial necessity, however, limits the publication of a comprehensive list, and what I offer instead is a list of 50 plain reasons to oppose Obama. Below are the first 25 reasons, to be followed by another 25 next Monday tomorrow. They are presented in no particular order, as ranking them would for several reasons prove to be an unfeasible task.

Read my column for the list!

Paul,

Why is McCain going to start taxing my health care benefits? I was thinking of voting for him until I found this out. I'm outraged by this, frankly. Why would he start taxing something so vital to me and my family?

My employer told me that my health care policy is worth $13,750 annually. So this would leave me with a new tax liability of $8,750. And, I already am considered "poison" by the big insurance companies who would never write me a personal policy because I have a pre-existing condition.

Maybe you can convince me otherwise. I'm a conservative guy and I almost always vote Republican. But I'm really angry that McCain would start taxing my health care and making it more difficult for me to get covered. Can you explain this?

Jim, if health care is such a big issue for you, it would seem that you would want to read McCain's health care page in its entirety: http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htm

It even addresses your point directly:
"This Obama charge is a blatant mischaracterization of the McCain Health Plan. It only focuses on the fact that the value of the employer provided insurance will now show up as additional income for the employees - what he fails to mention - is that John McCain’s generous refundable tax credit ($5,000 for families and $2,500 for individuals) will not only shield millions of families from a tax increase but will actually give them MORE dollars to invest in their health care needs."

It seems that you would actually make more money under McCain's plan regardless of what tax bracket you are in.

I read the link you sent me two days ago. And I did a lot of research on this. Explain to me how McCain's $5000 rebate, which I understand will go directly to the insurance companies----which, as we know, hate to pay claims---will benefit me when I have a policy worth $13K? How?

Also, if I'm forced on to the open market, what insurance company will go near me, even for an exorbitant rate, with my pre-existing condition? What will McCain do for me if I'm told that my premium is $3000 per month and it explicitly rules out any coverage for anything related to the disease most likely to give me problems? How---and why---would a private, for-profit company help me in this situation?

I'm pretty angry about this. And I've personally gotten several friends and family members to contact McCain's campaign for some answers. None of them have been told anything except "Look at our website." and "Obama's lying. Don't trust him."

That's not good enough. I despise the Democrats, but I'm so pissed about McCain taxing my health care benefits---something vital to my life and my family---that I'm thinking of voting for Obama, or staying home, just to shove it back in his face.

He's not a real conservative anyway. We should have never nominated the insurance company crony.
