James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace Succumbs to the Left

I saw Quantum of Solace when it first opened at midnight last night. It was a beautiful movie - action-packed, smart, funny, and Daniel Craig is as good in it as he was in Casino Royale.

But, alas, few good products from the entertainment industry come untainted by its ideology.

The first political reference in the movie was when one of the characters explained that the new heroic Bolivian government is one of the people, and as such has raised the minimum wage from 35 cents a day to one dollar a day - making the evil "corporations" quite upset. The second I heard that, I rolled my eyes and knew to expect the worst.

What liberals don't understand is that by raising the minimum wage to one dollar, they have priced everyone whose labor is worth less than a dollar out of the market. These corporations have no choice but to find another labor market where the wages are 35 cents, or if that's not possible, they have to lay off their Bolivian workers without creating any replacement jobs. A mandatory minimum wage causes unemployment - plain and simple.

Then, the movie engaged in the obligatory tale about how the bad CIA agents were helping to overthrow the current Bolivian leadership to replace it with a dictatorship, just so they can have access to Bolivian resources. This is after eight years of the Left trashing President Bush for being "too ideological and idealistic" in seeking to spread democracy around the world, even at the cost of American power and influence. Which is it, guys - are we Kissingerians or neo-cons?

Anyway, it's too bad, because I don't want to take anything away from the movie itself. But just make sure you rectify these issues to your friends as you walk out of the theater.

Shame, I was thinking about seeing this movie. I guess I'll give it a miss. I think we need to send a message to Holywood. I do not intentionally watch movies with nonsensical leftist propaganda anymore.
