Top Ten Least Favorite People on the Right

I am starting a new Friday feature called "Top Ten," in which I will make top ten lists of... anything interesting. This week it's a list of my least favorite people on the right, which is a list I've already made for the poll I discuss below.

Yesterday I linked to the results of a Right Wing News bloggers poll in which I participated, ranking our "Least Favorite People on the Right." Now, keep in mind that not all of us necessarily consider these people to be on the "right," but the fact is, most are generally perceived to be so. And that's the standard for this list. The list also doesn't consider obvious choices, like racists and people in prison.

A word about my rankings:

-John McCain: Even though he was ranked as the most commonly disliked person in the bloggers poll, he did not make my list. I never shared the dislike for him that is so widespread among conservatives. I always said I would have supported Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, and John McCain for the presidency but not Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul (see my column here). Yes, McCain is absolutely awful on some issues, but in that field was also the strongest free trader, the strongest opponent of subsidies, the strongest enemy of earmarks, the best on Iraq and one of the best on spending. Not to mention that he best defines what an American hero is, and I wouldn't insult him by including him in a list with Larry Craig and Ted Stevens.

-Mike Huckabee: I dislike him a lot less now than I did during the primaries (see my columns here and here), and from what I've seen of him since, he's slowly making his way out of my naughty list. That said, I will never support him for president, because he is and will always be a big government type.

So, without further ado:

Top Ten Least Favorite People on the Right

10-Mike Huckabee

9-Chris Buckley

8-Colin Powell

7-Andrew Sullivan

6-Arlen Specter

5-Larry Craig

4-Don Young

3-Lincoln Chafee

2-Wayne Gilchrest

1-Ted Stevens

Arlen Specter shouldn't be on this list. He's not a person "on the right" to begin with.

I think Iskander's idea of top ten contemporary leaders in the world is a good idea. I think I'll use that one myself.

What about the top ten libertarians?

Paul, I enjoy both the clarity of your writing and its intellectual honesty (as exemplified by your caveat about John McCain above). Well done! I'm enjoying your site a lot (HT to Michelle Malkin for sending her readers your way).
