Irrational Bans on Both Sides of the Atlantic
I saw two stories this morning that are seemingly completely unrelated. But a closer look shows that the underlying theme is very much he same.
First is a story about New York City ordering 22 churches to stop providing beds to homeless people because, get this, there is a city rule requiring such shelters to be open five days a week or not at all.
Second is a story about Britain considering a ban on happy hour in order to reduce drinking among people. Yes, they want to ban happy hour.
The underlying theme in both stories is a nanny state that cares so much about its "peasants" that it just can't stop making laws to "help" them. Only it turns out that these laws almost always hurt the people or take away their freedom, and usually, they do both.

Freedom erodes with each passing day. I expect this in Europe, and oppose it here.
I have family in Europe. Oftentimes we discuss issues like this and it's always interesting how they gripe and moan about it but seem absolutely amazed that we don't mirror their "ways"! I don't think it's an over-statement to say that our collectivist-complicit press has a lot to do with this coupled with the dumbing down of the general populace.
How about this irrational ban: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=59298
