I don't really care that much about the speaking skills of politicians, but those of us who have watched Obama closely since the beginning know he had been getting too much credit for his oratory abilities. The fact is, almost every single time he didn't have a teleprompter to lean on, he sounded pretty average, and drowned in uuuhhhhhhs. But I do agree with Rob on the two points that it's questionable to have a cheat sheet indicating safe journalists, and that Bush would have been ripped apart for attempting to seize so much control of his press conferences.
The double-standard we can believe in.
