Americans Wake Up to War on Terror Reality
Americans had long been convinced by Democrats and other anti-war propagandists that the U.S. is losing the War on Terror, and its most important battle in Iraq. The likes of Harry Reid have called the Iraq war "lost" and Barack Obama says we have become less safe because of our execution of the War on Terror.
Well, the latest Rasmussen poll has some striking numbers on Americans' perception of the War on Terror:
And on the Iraq War too:Over half of American voters (51%) now believe the United States and its allies are winning the war on terror, the highest figure recorded in nearly four years by Rasmussen Reports in a nationwide survey.
Only 16% now think the terrorists are on top, while 27% view it as a stalemate. Prior to this week’s survey, the number who believe the terrorists are winning had never fallen below 20%.
Last July, just 36% thought the U.S. and its allies were winning. At that time, an equal number—36%--thought the terrorists were ahead.
All I have to say to the Democrats and Barack Obama is, I'm sorry. I am very sorry Americans are finally catching up to the fact that we are fighting the War on Terror quite well. Hey, I'm sorry that we are winning the war, period. You will have to find another issue to needlessly drag the country into the ground for.Forty-two percent (42%) now think the situation in Iraq will improve over the next six months. That’s up from 37% a week ago and 23% a year ago.
Only 23% now expect things to get worse in Iraq, down from 49% last July.
Most Voters Agree with Heller
According to a Rasmussen poll, 63% of voters agree with the Supreme Court's ruling on the landmark gun case D.C. v. Heller. Only 25% don't. Half of those are burglars.
Poll: Americans Are Less Fearful of Terrorism
But... But... Barack Obama says that President Bush has made us less safe! How could this CNN poll find that Americans' fears of terrorism are fading?
According to the poll, 35 percent of Americans believe that a terrorist attack on the U.S. is likely over the next several weeks. This is the lowest number since 9/11.
Could it be that the President has protected the homeland? Or could it be that he has taken out much of Al Qaeda's leadership around the world? Or could it be that he took the fight to the terrorists, who are much more intent on taking Iraq and Afghanistan than on attacking the U.S.?
It's not like the terrorists have not tried to attack the U.S. since 9/11. We have been able to stop at least ten terrorist plots in the past seven years. Indeed, the President has fought the War on Terror well, and America is safer for it - however inconvenient our safety is to Barack Obama.
No One Wants the Capital Gains Tax Raised
Well, except for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
A new Rasmussen poll shows that 65% of Americans are opposed to raising the capital gains tax and only 16% (presumably those who don't own stocks) favor it. Even 50% of Democrats oppose raising the tax. I really don't get why Clinton and Obama are pushing in the other direction.
If you haven't already read my column on Obama's rationale for raising the capital gains tax to 28%, I highly recommend it.
Obama and Clinton Backers "Bitter"
From a Rasmussen poll released today:
This gives me butterflies...Just 68% of Democrats say they would vote for Obama against McCain. Twenty-three percent (23%) would vote for the Republican, 5% for a third-party option, and 4% are undecided. Clinton attracts 71% of Democrats. In that match-up, 21% would vote for McCain, 4% say they would vote for some other candidate, and another 4% are undecided. McCain attracts 85% of Republicans against Clinton, 82% against Obama, and leads both Democrats by double digits among unaffiliated voters.
Good Polls on Economic Issues
Here are some pleasantly surprising poll results from Rasmussen:
-48% of Americans say the best thing the government can do for the economy is to get out of the way by reducing taxes and regulations. Only 36% disagree.
-53% oppose a federal bailout for homeowners who took out bad loans, while 29% disagree.
-61% oppose a federal bailout for banks who gave out bad loans, while 15% disagree. What is interesting is that Democrats are more supportive of bailing out the "big bad banks" than Republicans are.
-And thankfully, 59% believe it is more important to create economic growth than to reduce the income gap between rich and poor. An unfortunate 35% disagree.
Poll Shows Obama Leading Clinton in Pennsylvania
According to this poll (opens in PDF), Obama's leading Clinton 45-43 in Pennsylvania. Yikes!
For those of us hoping to see them get to convention, this is not necessarily a cause for alarm. Hillary's still leading in just about every other poll.
Polls of the Day
Rasmussen has John McCain leading Clinton and Obama by double digits, 51% to 41%, to be exact. This might cease being the case once the Democrats choose their nominee, but until then, it's good news.
Another Rasmussen survey shows that 47% of Americans believe we are winning the war on terror, while a long-time low of 20% think the terrorists are winning. But perphaps most disturbing is this passage:
Republicans, by a 73% to 8% margin, believe the U.S. and its allies are winning. Among Democrats, just 30% believe the U.S. and its allies are winning while 32% believe the terrorist have the edge.
Partisan Rating of the Economy
A Rasmussen poll today explains Americans' ratings of the U.S. economy. What's always most striking about such polls is the following: 32% of Republicans rate the economy as "poor," while 61% of Democrats rate it as "poor."
This helps explain why the media talks about recession even in the good economic years of a Republican administration. And it says something about the reliability of polling people about something they know absolutely nothing about.
